Mayor: Maynard Jackson (1974-82)

Mayor Jackson's campaign included several visits to Atlanta Projects along with heavy outreach to and involvement with tenant’s associations in the projects.

1974-82

Summarize the events of this time period 

1974

Paul Austin, Coca-Cola’s chief executive officer, proposed clearing Techwood Homes, relocating its residents to the outskirts of the city, and replacing the property with moderate-income housing and shopping– (Techwood had recently integrated and gone from all white to 50% Black – they were also located very close to the Coca-Cola headquarters) Mayor Maynard Jackson quashed efforts to demolish, this time.

1977

Housing and community Development Grant of 1977 laid statutory framework for Urban Development Action Grants (UDAG)[1]

1979

Congress's Neighborhood Development Plan (NDP) ends

1980

Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) program initiated by Congress and used as the source of funding for future housing development projects
